This video footage of Ostad Mahmoud Zoufonoun was taken in 1985 by Dr. Hafez Modir, Professor of Music at San Francisco State University and a student and friend of Ostad Zoufonoun.
The rare footage in its entirety shows Ostad Zoufonoun in his garage, painstakingly repairing a modest violin having no strings or bridge and immediately upon doing so, tuning the instrument and improvising an electrifying suite of original pieces in the avaz (sub-mode) of Afshari.
What is perhaps most interesting about the video is that Ostad Zoufonoun can create and play music of such depth, notwithstanding the very noticeably poor quality of the student's instrument or the very audible sound of cars in the background...all during a hot sunny afternoon standing in his garage; a testament to the unique temperament of this master!
