Nature videographer, Will Michael discovers a wood turtle along a river bank. Wood Turtles are a species of special concern in many northeastern states. Due to habitat loss, their numbers are under close watch by the Department of Environmental Protection. Wood turtles rank among the most intelligent turtle species.

  • @kidknarly1 Absolutely right! each ring represents a growth spurt of which several can occur in one year or season - the rings can be narrower in times of drought or lack of food or thicker in times of plenty but do not indicate accurately the age of a turtle, at least not correspondingly to the way rings of a tree indicate the tree's age. However in wood tutles the scutes are not shed as in many aquatic species - this is what gives them the "carved wood" appearance hence the name Wood Turtle

  • i like turtles...they taste good in soup

  • counting the lines doesnt always work,because these lines appear when they shed the scutes,ans they may do tht multiple times a year
