This was the beginning of the 11:00 pm newscast on WTVJ in Miami on Saturday, August 22, 1992 with Bryan Norcross' discussion of Hurricane Andrew. At that time we were certain that Hurricane Andrew was going to hit southeast Florida, but we didn't know exactly who was going to get the worst of it. The program ended up running until approximately 1:00 am, and we could have stayed on for hours more, but I knew we would be there early the next day and the next night was going to be very long. The anchors is Jose Diaz-Balart. "Okay Jose"!
Great clip. Thanks for posting.
I remember where I was when this aired. Of course, my memories of the next night are much more vivid.
As devastating as Andrew was - and "devastating" doesn't even begin to cover it - it was not the Big One.
The real nightmare scenario is another hurricane like the one in 1926, which devastated downtown Miami and the beaches.
Another storm like that is inevitable. It might not happen next year, or even in the next 10 years ... but, one day, it will happen.
