Video featuring, from IBM: Mike Wing, Irving Wladawsky-Berger and Julia Grace.

If you look at our planet from space, what you see is something like a neural network with the cities as its nodes, and that is as good an image of the planet as a complex system of systems as one could hope for.

With the emergence of the internet in the mid-90's, the world became one global commons. In the past, we could understand that there was some mysterious unity to the various dimensions of life but we couldn't understand its dynamics, we couldn't observe and measure their interactions. We basically operated like the drunk who looks under the streetlight for his keys because that's where he can see.

  • "here is the damn information

you make the decision. You are the human.

    I'm just a machine."

    exactly.

    thank you fine sir.

  • @ereignisfelder "You are the human. I'm just a machine." That's my ringtone.

  • Is this a themed video? Emphasize that humans will never be replaced by computers? IBM the people company. lol I bet this is made for idiots isn't it. Probably business management.

  • Lord Java: Possibly made by idiots, but certainly not for idiots. When I was recording the interviews for this video, I did have in the back of my mind a handful of the comments posted in reaction to The Internet of Things video where a few viewers mentioned their fear of modern tech. It came up in the conversations captured, and made the cut. No great conspiracy here, we are just a couple of people trying to make compelling content.

  • Although i do see where IBM is coming from when they say humans & computers will work together... i don't think humans need to be part of the equation... at least in finance... it has been shown that the best and brightest are no good at predicting the future (i.e. whether the market will goes up or down).... it is uncertain... so in this case it would make no difference if we added a human in the equation as the computer has already take all the data and make the optimal decision using the data

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video!

  • But to control all of this, for a person to be able to get all this information, wouldn't that put huge demands on some sort of software? A softwear where you're acctually able to read all of the data, that can acctually tell me that I need to wake up and wich fairy to take? I smell fail already....

  • @gussavoie OMG I was thinking the same thing.... CREEEEPY

  • @IBMSocialMedia Haha, U rock!!! :D

  • Yes, I agree with your idea Adam. Your contents are compelling itself and the idea of the video reflects facts considering the current system of the Internet and Social media.

Great video and keep up the great work,

  • @MatrixManAtYrService Machines are not free, we humans need to be free to "be complexe and unpredictable" so I don't agree with you, we humans are humans not "machines working on biological hardware" as you state. Stating or accepting the fact that we are machines is declining the concept of individuality and the concept of humanity.

  • Oh, I was just shooting from the hip, pay me no mind. I really enjoyed your Internet of Things video. Job well done. I'm just bitter and remorseless. You understand.
