  • Kinda reminded me of Derek Trucks :) You've got to play slide guitar :D

  • @apessk8s88 Thanks man, I don't play slide unfortunately, I'm crap at it : ( I wish I'd spent more time over the years learning slide. I love listening to Derek Trucks, his music is spellbinding.

  • which scales do you use?

  • @chokicou Mainly Pentatonic and Dorian, I use those scales for everything! Maybe it's time to learn more...

  • Oh yeah... bought 2nd hand GLPD in 86, sold it in 96, got her back in 97.

Bought 2nd hand SFTR in 86, too. Sold it in 90, got it back in 2000. Silly and lucky me.

  • Your playing is excellent and your guitar is great looking and sounds warm but with plenty of definition;lovely stuff!

  • great!

  • nice groove nice arrange. great.

  • This guy reminds me of Mike Bloomfield. He has excellent timing and proper string execution.

  • Yeah..deluxe rules, i hv 80 LP in ebony..very nice sound..but its too heavy for my shoulder..wanna keep it coz its so cool..also got LP 96 standard honeyburst, black Navigator LP Custom Ltd Edn Japanese Vintage 70's..black Greco LP custom 80's, natural Gneco LP customize, silverburst Burny LP..they are nice but deluxe hv something special coz of mini humbucker i think..btw..all d best

  • @dponzi56 Yes, as Les Pauls go, the Deluxes are my favourites. I sold this guitar 'cause I didn't appreciate it at the time and thought it should have a good home, I've never been much of a Les Paul guy. I believe guitars are meant to be played and not just kept as conversation pieces : ) That said, I do regret selling this when I watch this video. Maybe I'll replace her one day if I have the money. Take it easy.

  • @mx5rush, I have the same setup. I bought a 73 LP deluxe goldtop new, and in around 78 or 79, I got a 64 Fender Deluxe Reverb. I have them both to this day. I have 9 guitars and the 73 goldtop is still my favorite.

  • nice...........

  • Great tone!

  • Hey matt fantastic stuff. This inspired me to do my own version of chameleon. Check it out if you get a chance. If you search for "les Paul goldtop chameleon" it should be there. Looking forward to seeing you play again real soon. Maybe we can even set up a bit of a session in Shanleys! Cheers steve

  • Great matt! congrats! 5stars!

  • Thanks man, but to be honest, I'm more of an SG man these days as that gives me tone that's a lot thinner than an LP but still bigger than coils. I've never really 'connected' with LPs, the guitar in this vid is the only one I've ever been able to play as I had 3 previous to this. I find that with a Tele and my SG at a gig, I have the sounds in my head covered!

  • Matt,

With a set of Jason Lollar minihumbuckers with a 4 wire configuration you can coil tap and get a great single coil tone..the lollars will give you much better transparency..

  • Thanks! Dunno what cables I was using as they change hands so often in the bands I play with! I use 11 gauge strings.

  • Matt,

Excellent job! What are you using for guitar cables? How bout strings.

    Many thanks for sharing!

    Rick

  • Thanks man. I actually think a Strat would have been better for this, but I just wanted to try something different at the time.

  • nice....i thought most funky guitarists used strats but this is nice

  • It's a pity .

But looking forward you can have even better fun with SG than LP deluxe, if you called it 'thick' . . .

So keep on jammin' maaan xD

  • ...I love the idea of jamming over an Allman Brothers track, the best jamband in rock history if you ask me. The issue is the fact that it's not my music. YouTube are ripping down videos that contain copyrighted music, so I'm not sure if it would be possible. Thanks again

  • Cheers man, yup, I love the tone of a Gibson with a TS808 (the closest thing to perfection in my book!). I have to say I've definitely become an SG man though. I love that LP Deluxe but I sold it to a friend 'cause I wasn't playing it and he loved it! (now times are tough and he's offered to sell it back to me!) but I just find Les Paul's in general to be uncomfortable and very 'thick' sounding. With an SG, I find I have the option of a 'thin' tone if I want it, which give more 'cut' live....
