Solving a quadratic equation by using the factoring method. If factoring is a weakness for you, then watch the videos on factoring that will appear in the later series. This is video 35 of 51 in the solving equation series. The next three series are "Word Problems", "Factoring" and "Graphing".

  • my teacher sucks at teaching she tought it this way but she keeps saying this is the illegal method and she has a really bad accent

  • @dannyleeg Sorry teacher, but there is nothing illegal about this method! It is the quickest method if the quadratic can be factored easily. If it is a harder quadratic or one that cannot be factored (or if you are poor at factoring), then the methods to use are graphing (if you have a graphing calculator) or the quadratic formula.

  • canadian accent? or no.

  • Guilty as charged! - eh !

  • When you move the 48 over you should stress the idea of equality. All you are really doing is subtracting both sides of the equation by 48. While it may seem insignificant now, when you need to manipulate the equation with things like square roots it becomes a lot less trivial.

  • I did that way back in the earliest videos on solving equations. Thanks for the feedback!!
