Peoples! I have two electricity meters to show in this video. They are:

Ferranti F2K-50B.......and.......Ferranti FPQ-102

Their characteristics are as follows:

F2K-50B: 240v, 50Hz, 1ph-2w, 20-60A, and 187.5 revs/kWh

FPQ-102: 240v, 50Hz, 1ph-2w, 20-60A, and 225 revs/kWh

When my APQ gets decommissioned and removed, I would like to replace that meter with one of these....BUT! Which one? They're both good instruments, which is why they are the shortlisted candidates for replacing the APQ. They are both Ferranti, just like the APQ also.

I have used a Ferranti F2K-50B before now, and they're good, as they have a magnetic-bearing load-wheel, similar to Sangamo Weston's FLOTON® and also have the advantage of the straight-numbers readout on them. The 1/10 readout is also incremented with 0.01 marks on it.

The other one however, the FPQ-102 hasn't ever been used by me, but it's operation is similar to the APQ. It does not have a magnetic bearing load-wheel, and just like the APQ, this one also has the dial-type readouts.

Because of how easy it is to read the F2K-50B, I would like to go back to using one of those......BUT! I figured that I would throw-open the decision to YOU. Which meter shall replace the Ferranti APQ?

Is it going to be the F2K-50B?

OR.....

Is it going to be the FPQ-102?

YOU DECIDE! Here's how. Under this video description, there are TWO COMMENTS, MADE BY MYSELF. One says:

"Give this comment a thumbs up if you think that the *****FERRANTI F2K-50B***** should be the replacement meter"

and the other one says:

"Give this comment a thumbs up if you think that the *****FERRANTI FPQ-102***** should be the replacement meter"

YOU DECIDE WHICH ONE, by "Thumbing-up" one of the comments listed below this video description, made by myself.

I will review the comments ON 28TH JANUARY 2012, AT 15.00 GMT, and whichever one has the most "Thumbs-up" at that point in time, shall be the replacement meter to the Ferranti APQ.

So! Get your votes in RIGHT NOW! There isn't much time to decide, so watch the video a few times if necessary to make your mind up, and then "Thumb-up" the appropriate message in order to vote-up that meter.

Thanks for watching, and participating!

  • Ferranti FPQ-102 For me It was a difficult choice but I realey like the arrow type I think that they are the proper original. Sorry Ferranti F2K-50B But you will get a chance in anouther 13 Years. I hope that helps you BBD :)

  • @Steven715715 OK, you've made your choice, & that's all I ask. :-) If you voted-up my FPQ-102 comment to add extra 'thumbs' to it, then that's great, as I'll be looking at those on the 28th Jan, & whichever one gets the most "thumbs-up" will be the winner.

What I cannot guarantee however, is that the FPQ-102 will be installed for a whole thirteen years. :-D I may get bored with it after three of four years, then change it for the F2K-50B. :-)

    Thanks for voting,

    -BoomBoxDeluxe.

  • Give this comment a thumbs up if you think that the

    *****FERRANTI FPQ-102*****

    should be the replacement meter.

  • @BoomBoxDeluxe Ripping out the nameplate seems to happen a lot in the UK.

On these big auction sites there are often interesting meters for sale but absolutely worthless as the original nameplate is missing. It is illegal too as the specs are important for safe installation, especially current ratings.

  • @Steven715715 To be honest with you, I think that Ferranti's APQ and FPQ-102 were the replacements to Smith's APM & APR meters. The Smith equivalents though, only go upto 40A. I'm not sure about my APQ ( because someone ripped out the specification plate!! ) but the FPQ-102 (just like the F2K-50B) has a capacity of 60A. The F2K-50B is a 1980s modernised replacement to the FPQ, & in it's later years, were probably manufactured with £1 coin slots as standard. :-)

  • @HDXFH We are both agreed :-) I dont know about you but there is something about the Dial Pointer type that I realy like. Probbley they are proper original ones.

  • @BoomBoxDeluxe Nice at least the F2K-50B Will get a chance to run it would be nice to see a video of that time if and when it comes. I did already put a thums up on the FPQ-102 It was neck and Neck before I voted. I still like the pointers though :-)

  • Dial pointer type should replace it!

  • FERRANTI FPQ-102
