The swing path is the path your tennis racket travels along from the start of your motion to the finish. The fundamental thing you need to understand about the swing path when learning how to hit a forehand is that, once you release the tennis racket with your other hand, it never stops moving.

  • Great video, thanks. Do you have any videos where you discuss Roger federer's forehand? I noticed that there was one on the grip, but not the forehand deal?

  • Hey med. We'll be filming one on his forehand shortly.

  • Hi,

This is a very good instructional video I use it for teaching my son . I was recently watching the tennis guru on the modern forehand and he reckons the contact point on the modern forehand is at your side to maximise the acceleration you have instead of infront of you where deceleration of your racket is occurring. You 're saying the contact point is in front of your body and not at your side which is the better contact point .

    Thanks

  • Your contact point is in front of your body. If you watch some slow-motion clips of Federer and other players on Youtube, they are clearly hitting the ball in front of their bodies.

  • this is by far the best tennis instruction for forehand that i've ever come across in video format. Excellente! My lord that was some very detailed, patient explainations and I think the best part for the learner is the analogies that you make. The are spot on! I think the "check your watch" really helped out alot. also the footwork explainations on weight distribution and shifting was something that has really helped clear up the forehand for me. 5STAR effort.

  • I cannot thank you enough for your videos. I live in a rural area where there are no coaches available, and these videos have helped me get better and win a few tournament matches.

  • Need exercise tips for tennis ?

  • swing

  • @FYB2007 I think there is a difference between technicality and actual feel. Whereas you're right about the actual hitting point being in front of your body (slightly), if as a player you start aiming for that, you may end up reaching forward and hitting too far out in front. I know for myself that a solid contact point feels as if it's to my side, but if i videotape myself, those contact points that felt to the side are definitely in front of me.

  • Yep, part 3 has the most views :)

  • @msmyla91 i like how you noticed that ... it seems that i am alone on this planet with noticing and analyzing things...good job on attention to details...however i believe that on part II, there are 200k views....i am obviously going to verify that after i comment on this...not before ; )

btw...there was another tutorial, by "lone star professional tennis" and he tried to explain a forehand in one video in the span of a couple of minutes...and this tutorial is broken up into 5....

  • awsome job on the tutorial
