'Elite sport cannot stand alone without local facilities giving kids the chance to get into the sport in the first place. I really hope Edinburgh is going to continue to produce world champion cyclists in the future but we cannot do this without a local facility.' - Chris Hoy.

I have visited this velodrome on track days, and although it is in dire need of refurbishment, not to say a roof, it was fantastic to see track racing here in Edinburgh.
Hopefully with Chris now top man in the Olympics, he can kick some ass !

Hi there, This makes me feel so lucky!, I throw hammer with the Bank of Scotland Hammer develpment squad and, I took for granted the facilitys we have! We have amazing faciltys at Grangemouth but when I visited meadowbank for the District Athletic Champs, I took a little look at the Velodrome, and the only time I had seen won before was on TV. I think its apawling, considering how successful the Scottish and GB teams are at track cycling.

the only possible saving grace for this track is the blessed credit-crunch. thankfully, It is slowing down the council selling off land, and facilities such as this and the rest of the meadowbank complex could be around until at least 2012! here's hoping...
