Ferguson is arrogant and a novice at economic policy. Being an economic historian does not make you an expert at contemporary economic policy. Very few economic historians actually combine expertise in macroeconomics or comparative development with economic history. The Indian scholar, Tirthankar Roy is one. Another uniquely stellar figure is the Dutch scholar, Angus Maddison. Ferguson is a wannabe.

I can show you statistics that argue the other side.

Ferguson is just an apologist for western capital that see more returns in Asia.

And, I am assuming that you are an expert at history? I am definitely not but I do know enough to disprove your opinion that was advanced in your comment.

Your definition of "always" seems to be 1770-Now. Get a grip. Your arrogance is what destroys empires. Western culture is only dominant now because it was backed up by Western muscle, financial and military, in an age of globalization. As the core erodes, the outer implodes. I agree that Western culture will be the "global" culture for the rest of our lives probably, but that's only because it naturally takes longer to replace that than it will to replace Western hard power (military, economic)

Yeah, I agree. Confucianism, gunpowder, compasses, paper, coal as fuel, natural gas as fuel, fireworks, hydraulics, paper currency, blast furnaces, toothbrushes, cast iron, fishing reels, flamethrowers, grenades, multistage rockets, nail polish, negative numbers, oil wells, playing cards, and menus, among numerous other inventions, were all frivolous, silly Chinese inventions from antiquity. These can't possibly count as evidence of Asian innovation, it would break your racist worldview, right?
