I dont get why they used exstensive props and costumes.....the plainess of the scenery and costuming has a point and i believe it is sort of vital in the experience of the show...........i mean it has been off broadway for such a long time why change it?

I've seen this play a thousand times, performed/directed it twice and seen it in all kinds of permutations, including a full orchestra version in Dallas in 1977. It never really works unless it's a small theatre, just like the Sullivan St Theatre it was born in. There' s still time, folks, to see it in its new home, the Snapple Theatre Center at 50th and Broadway in NYC. See it as it was intended. ( Wish the El Gallo at at 2:01 had gotten the lyrics right!)

I would have loved to see this. My parents and I had season tickets to the Arena stage in the late 60's - 70's, I grew up there. I have now moved away, but I am coming back for a visit in March. It will be like seeing an old friend.
