book and lyrics by Tom Jones
music by Harvey Schmidt
directed by Amanda Dehnert
November 20, 2009 - January 10, 2010 at the Lincoln Theatre

"Try to Remember" a time when The Fantasticks wasn't captivating audiences. The memorable score by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt enlivens the heart of this passionate musical that charmed Off-Broadway for a record-breaking 42 years. In a twist on the classic story of boy meets girl, Matt and Luisa are led by El Gallo from the wistfulness of "when life was slow and oh so mellow" to the reality that "without a hurt the heart is hollow." Rising star director Amanda Dehnert re-imagines this timeless fable in an abandoned amusement park, a perfect playground for the story's emotional carnival.

  • I dont get why they used exstensive props and costumes.....the plainess of the scenery and costuming has a point and i believe it is sort of vital in the experience of the show...........i mean it has been off broadway for such a long time why change it?

  • Two Juniors are my school are going to do this for their senior project over the summer. I'm excited to see how it will turn out!

  • my grandpa was d producer of d original fantasticks on sullivan street. luv dis show!

  • I've seen this play a thousand times, performed/directed it twice and seen it in all kinds of permutations, including a full orchestra version in Dallas in 1977. It never really works unless it's a small theatre, just like the Sullivan St Theatre it was born in. There' s still time, folks, to see it in its new home, the Snapple Theatre Center at 50th and Broadway in NYC. See it as it was intended. ( Wish the El Gallo at at 2:01 had gotten the lyrics right!)

  • LOVE! the magic was soo cool! I'm hooked on the music! :]

  • I would have loved to see this. My parents and I had season tickets to the Arena stage in the late 60's - 70's, I grew up there. I have now moved away, but I am coming back for a visit in March. It will be like seeing an old friend.
