Here is another video in my series of songs that charted on the US Hot 100 that I believe should have been a bigger hit.

Chase - So Many People
Danyel Gerard - Butterfly
Jamestown Massacre - Summer Sun
Bang - Questions
Buckwheat - Simple Song of Freedom
National Lampoon - Deteriorata
Mark-Almond - One Way Sunday
Bones - Roberta
Lindisfarne - Lady Eleanor
Rock Flowers - Number Wonderful
The Sugar Bears - You Are the One
Bullet - Willpower Weak, Temptation Strong
Steve Alaimo - Amerikan Music
Denise LaSalle - A Man Sized Job
Paul Williams - Waking Up Alone

  • I found this video very interesting. But I have to disagree about the title. I think most of the songs are mediocre at best. But, as with all art forms, alot of it is subjective, and a matter of one's taste. I imagine there were songs that I really liked back when I was younger that others might look at as bad.

  • @LIONARTist60

I agree, these selections are totally subjective. All that I ask of viewers/listeners is to understand the context in which it is presented. I try to provide a bit of background as to why the song got as far as it did.

I could use many Top 40 or even Number 1 hits to show how awful the choices are made by the music buying public. It would not matter if it was 1972 or 2011.

Many of these songs could have been bigger hits (in my opinion) but it was not to be.

  • Interesting selection....I dont know why...thanks for the upload

  • @papafirelin

You are welcome, I hope you enjoyed it or at least had a nice walk down memory lane.

  • Thanks for posting this, I don't remember any of these songs. Maybe Rhino will rise up and put these out on a disc.

  • @Nikes62

That would be great, but I think there are too many rights issues with labels from this era.

  • It would've been nice if you'd posted the chart peaks.

  • i believe what hurt that Buckwheat song, that it was also used in a XXX movie too.

  • OMG, I love the Sugar Bears! That was a huge record for me growing up.

  • @Nikes62

ur right, very subjective. I dont remember these, not my style, then or now.

BUT...speaking of Rhino, check out Rhino and the posse, here on youtube

  • nccvball: if you want to you can add start and stop times to the list of songs so that viewers can go right to specific ones.

  • Bigger Hits...were they ever really hits? Gene Cotton released a song in 1972 I believe, called called "Sunday In Salem." THAT was a good sone!

  • @Nikes62 Glad to hear I'm not the only one with no recollection of any of these songs (and that was such a great era for music)!

  • i thought deteriorata was a huge hit

remember hearing it played on sf stations almost every day

and dr dimento used to play it a lot

  • The only decent song in this list was Lindisfarne's "Lady Eleanor"

  • @nccvball The titles are just fine.

For every million of albums and singles released each year barely recognised from lack of airplay, broadcasting or promotion, it's a deserving series; let alone the million eventually go into an obscurity phase.
