Capybara Bark

Caplin Rous, a 2-year-old capybara, is dreaming when something wakes him up and he gives a single bark.

Caplin does not bark very often, only when startled or really excited and playful so it has been difficult to catch on video. Sometimes he runs up and down the hall at night barking and shaking his head, the capybara equivalent of guinea pig popcorning, but I can never catch that.

How long does a Capybara live?

@SoxGrrl312 I am extremely saddened to say that Caplin Rous lived only 3.5 years. He died suddenly of chronic liver damage but we don't know why. I have started a charity to fund research on capybara veterinary care called The ROUS Foundation, you can read about it on my blog. However, in general, capybaras are said to live 12-14 years in captivity.

@PurpleNymph No, that was a bark. Capybaras bark when they are playing or as a warning to other capybaras when they think there is cause for alarm.

@caplincapybara Sounds like the little fella has a cold, LOL. Reminds me of hearing a Rock Hyrax. They have a similar sound. When I first heard those little critters I thought to myself, "uh oh, this fella is coming down with the flu. Someone give him a cough drop" :D

Dude.. wth.. i would love to see one of these bark at a dog.. oooo man.. that would make a dog jump hahahaha. I was driving past this one pitbull in someones lawn and it wasnt paying attention so i barked at it.. it jumped 2 feet in the air and spun around like WTH was THAT!
