Flying Tankers operate on the philosophy of "gallons per hour". Simply stated, this means a direct assault on the fire by dropping the largest possible amount of water or gel in the shortest possible time. This philosophy, combined with the Mars excellent initial attack and outstanding ability for sustained operations are the keys to our success - they are scoopers and, working in tandem, they are able to deliver 14,000 US gallons (54,500 litres) of suppressant for the initial attack and continue delivering as much as 7,200 US gallons (27,276 litres) every seven minutes thereafter in sustained operations if needed.

  • Ha ha ha suckers the fucking bomer plane is flying over my house all the time, in albreta Anzac! It's basing at Anzac lake! Yahoo! I got to get up close!

  • @rlwilson1 The planes are owned by a company in British Columbia. They are still in B.C.

  • THIS looks like fun... need any physician assistant backup?

  • these planes were born and bred in the US. if we ever got them back, it'd be a return home. and their REAL home base is Baltimore, WHERE THEY WERE MADE.

  • That's Mel Gregoire in the hanger working on the engine.

  • really nice video thank you If glen l martin could see his creations now !!!

  • I'm just happy Hawaii is being used. It was only a stupid political decision that let them go south, but hey, that's ok. They will always be from my hometown and have their home base here. They are the best!

  • The DC-10 holds 12,000, the Mars 7200. The difference though is the DC-10 requires landing and fillup on the ground, where as the Martin can fill "on the fly" by going to a nearby lake/reservoir (or ocean) and scooping water.

So if you have a lake nearby, the Mars can dump way way more water thanks to turnaround time in a short period of even if an airport is right beside the fire for the DC-10 (which of course it never is)

  • Sorry to say but the BC government wouldn't pay to keep them so we now have them in California. Your loss our gain.
