i saw this car at the montery historics and the mazda people told me they only run this car up to about 7k rpm to preserve the engine

That's definitely not top speed! You hear the car clearly getting off the throttle, maybe even shifting back? Anyway, you also hear one of the guys i the background say that he was slowing down. You have to be precise about these things. Great video though.
