I am a Senior Program and Technology Consultant in Silicon Valley, California, and this is the first time that I have written a book. It took eight years from the moment that I was angry enough to put my feelings and my management experience in writing for the benefit of others.

It is my sincere hope that my 32 years of management experience in the often-volatile high-tech industry can be used to help everyone better cope with such painful event as layoffs, sudden job loss, and fear of sudden job loss. The economic crisis of 2009 has proven to me that there is a better way. I have personally suffered through the disruptive boom and bust of industry economic cycles. I have been forced to lay off valuable employees and have witnessed the devastation Sudden Job Loss (SJL) has on those individuals and their families. I have myself been laid-off and remember the feeling of shame, remorse, helplessness, loss of self-worth, and anger at myself and also at my former employer for their seemingly betrayal and lack of appreciation for the hard work that performed for them.

My passion for being a top notch and people oriented manager, and many years of study and hundreds of books and discussions, has lead me to believe that all of us deserve better that wasting $2.4 Trillion each year in America, have 50 million people without jobs on a global basis, and have 40% or more of us unhappy with our jobs!

Following my great grandfather Ezras lead, I have dared to take the human pain and financial waste resulting from the way things are run now, and propose a blueprint for 107.8% employment, multiple best practices on how to prevent or at least minimize layoffs, and I have discussed many alternatives. These were chosen by using the most recent state-of-the-art management technology such as Six Sigma Root Cause Analysis, HP Way, and Agile Management. Yet, I have managed to do a somewhat of storytelling, entertaining description of what is wrong and how we can, with teamwork, fix it in a practical way.

The real message of this book is hope and inspiration for a practical, better, and win-win work place in spite all the hardships. I like us to have a song in our hearts as life is much too short and too precious to be wasted on fussing and fighting in the work place. I share with you some of my best and worst work place experiences to build understanding on how good things can be and how practical it is too.

This book is somewhat unique from other books on this difficult subject of unemployment and unhappy employment. This is because it does take into account and deals in the most humanly possible with our feelings.

I have come to realize that while such feelings are normal and natural, they can be counterproductive. In this book I have addressed practical methods I have found based on my own and many other peoples experience to be successful in coming to terms with Sudden Job Loss (SJL). Ill provide you with helpful techniques that I have found to be helpful in combating feelings of depression, anger and guilt.

  • Hi Bruce,

Corporate America's growing attitude toward its own employees is going to bite them in the end anyway; however, this presents an opportunity for start-up businesses to shine and take over the market.

Simply treating employees well, makes all the difference. I wonder; if a company mistreats its own employees, would it be capable of providing good customer loyalty and service at the same time?

    What do you think?

PS I love those rock bands that are mention in your book.

  • Bruce... you need to search 'Heart" & re-acquaint yourself with that music... for the sake of your soul...also, improve your production values... get a sock for that windy mic or else kill that bit...

Best 'o Luck (props for your Grace Slick addiction - me too...)
