William "Bill" Maher, Jr. (pronounced /ˈmɑr/; born January 20, 1956) is an American stand-up comedian, television host, social critic, political commentator, author, and actor. Before his current role as the host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher hosted a similar late-night talk show called Politically Incorrect originally on Comedy Central and later on ABC.

Maher is known for his political satire and sociopolitical commentary, which targets a wide swath of topics: religion, politics, bureaucracies of many kinds, political correctness, the mass media, greed among people and persons in positions of high political and social power, the lack of intellectual curiosity of the electorate, among many topics. He supports the legalization of marijuana and gay marriage and serves on the board of PETA.[1] He is also a critic of religion and is an advisory board member of Project Reason, a foundation aiming to promote scientific knowledge and secular values within society.[2] Maher currently ranks number 38 on Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-ups of all time.[3] Bill Maher got his Hollywood Walk of Fame star on September 14, 2010. His is the 2,417th star dedicated on the famous sidewalk.

The main problem with Maher's whole argument is that it defines religion by what people do rather than what scripture says. I don't think any rational person disagrees with basic rights for animals (to not be tortured, etc.), but animal rights movements have been marred by idiots who blow up shampoo factories. The Bible teaches love for everyone, even your enemies, and respect for all people, even if you cannot agree with their lifestyle.

@bzman149 And it sounds like YOU need to read a dictionary. As for *MISOGYNISTIC*, the Christian faith does not hate women, you uneducated, overjudmental, ignorant, childish zero. Some denominations simply take the Bible a bit literally about womens' subservience to their husbands and that women should not hold positions in the church, etc. Misogyny is the *hatred* of women. Read a book before you start trashing an entire faith. You obviously think what Bill wants you to think and nothing else.
