UDAW campaign reaches critical milestone in Canada - WSPA

Since 2007, WSPA Canada has been working tirelessly to convince the Canadian government to support our campaign to achieve a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). In a landmark decision on November 6, MPs from all four political parties unanimously adopted a motion which calls on the Canadian government to support (in principal) the development of a UDAW.

The motion was put forward by Liberal MP Michelle Simson (Scarborough Southwest) and seconded by NDP MP Bill Siksay (Burnaby Douglas). This makes Canada a leader - we are the first North American country to express support for a UDAW - and it means that Canada is one giant step closer to fully endorsing the campaign.

It is sad that few people are interested in helping animals. People we love them we must fight for they are the most defenseless and innocent beings in the world. Let's educate our children with good feelings toward them. Education begins at home so a child must love, protect and respect animals. Adults need to unite and support the animals through hard organizations to promote legislation for those who mistreat animals or killed unjustifiably.

@WinterHaven Actually, we Canadians who are against the seal slaughter are in the MAJORITY. Those government officials aren't listening to the people of this country, and cause excruciating embarrassment to us. A media blackout on the issue has been going on for more than 30 years in this country. The rest of the world knows more about it than the average Canadian. Until the internet came along, that is...

Obviously you all are a minority. You have government officials who are ripping out RAW seal hearts and munching down on them and says its tasty. You also have a government who knowingly and WILLINGLY buy SKINNED ALIVE dog and cat fur garments from China and is okay with that. Obviously the MAJORITY of you Canadians are barbarians to let that go on.
