@36Rara And I'm not saying you're one of those people, either, but I think that there should be more patience with people who are trying to quit, and also more accessible (and less expensive) treatment for addicts. At times, I think about how Amy literally threw her potential down the drain, and it frustrates me. But at the same time, I think that she was around some rotten people, and could only wish that someone had gotten a court order on her to stay in rehab until she was clean for good.

@36Rara I do agree with you that it is certainly NOT an excuse, and that starting drugs and drinking in the first place in the first place is a very stupid thing to do.

However, I also believe that once someone is hooked, no matter how hard one may try to quit, it is physically impossible to quit for some people. My point is that addiction shouldn't be viewed as a crime in which the "cure" is to throw a person in jail or for society to say cruel things about them.

@TGTSTS Calling drug and alcohol addiction a disease seems to be a way for some to excuse those who don't do what they need to do to get sober....as if they can't help it. My uncle was an alcoholic and was sober the last 40 years of his life. It is an insult to him and all who have the strength to conquer their addiction to excuse people like Amy. I am tired of entertainers who trash their very blessed lives being held up as tragic icons, while those who deserve praise get ignored.

@36Rara Any death is a tragedy. Just because she had substance abuse, that doesn't make her life any less valuable. I hate it when people say this. It's ignorant to think that just because someone has an addiction, that they are bad people. Addiction is a disease. Besides, don't you think Amy tried really hard to give it up? According to her father, she had been clean of drugs since 2008, it was alcohol she was still struggling with. Walk a mile in her shoes before passing judgement.
