    (cont ..) the grouping together of the expression of maladaptive behaviours and symptoms.

  • @Evilrolfharris

    (cont...) in order to simplify a very complex subject. The point is, it may not be helpful to provide something to belong to, to people that feel the need to belong to something. For a little more on this subject, Google "Attachment to Diagnosis". On the other hand, people may read the list and say "I don't tick all the boxes, therefore I must go on looking for my explanation". From this perspective, we would be far better to understand the core dysfunction, rather than (cont..)

    The other point is to emphasise that people don't "have" Borderline. One of the symptoms and experiences of "emotional dysregulation" is a feeling of not belonging versus a desperate need to belong. (cont..) is believed to be caused by incomplete, disrupted, or otherwise dysfunctional structural connections between the orbitofrontal cortex and the amygdala. With certain training, these connections can be repaired or rebuilt and this is what DBT seems to do so well. The amygdala is the brains fear centre and controls fight or flight response. So, in a way, you could look at "internal evasion" as the amygdala, autonomously, trying to avoid being trapped or caught. (cont ...)

  • A very nice summary. And the tune is very appropriate, too.

    A couple of points;

    Manipulation is a product of the internal evasion. In other words, something inside is trying to avoid being exposed or uncovered and the manipulations are external manifestations of the internal "game of hide and seek". To explain this we would need to look at the important structures of the brain involved in "emotional regulation"; The Orbitofrontal Cortex & the Amygdala. "Emotional Dysregulation" (cont ...)
