Nope, you don't need to. French competency is only required for the program you're applying into that has 4U French language course as a prerequisite (among others).

@11DRUMMERGUY single rooms for any uni/coll is hard to get.... all first year student are guaranteed a res.
but hey i dont go there.. plannin to go next sept :D

I noticed on the Carleton University Residence Website that they give out the choice rooms (Single, Suite single and suit double) in order of when the applicant for those style of room accept their offer of residence. does this mean that someone who doesn't get early acceptance will pretty much stand no chance of getting a single room?

They forgot to mention you can skate to The Beer Store, or downtown via the Rideau Canal. Best to use the buddy system after a night of partying, though. My room mate didn't make it back once and we had go looking for him along the canal. He decided he was tired and it would be a good idea just to sleep at the side of the canal in a snowbank. :-D
