Coverage from TWC of Hurricane Michelle as it moves through and past the Bahamas in Nov. 2001, with a live report from Islamorada, FL...Thanks to Tony (Hurricaneadventures) for sending me the footage.
At one point, as a result of ocean temperatures being so much warmer much farther north than normal, forecasters were suggesting that Linda make even make a direct hit in Southern California, as a hurricane (naturally much weaker, most likely category one strength by that time, if it had indeed moved just offshore of the Baja Pennisula, on its way to Southern California). Regardless, it is truly a historic hurricane for the aforemention reason.
The waters of the Eastern Pacific were unusually warm as a result of a very strong El Nino that particular season (This phase of the ENSO cycle creates favorable atmospheric conditions for East Pacific tropical cyclone formation, while at the same time producing hostile atmospheric conditions for tropical cyclone formation in the Atlantic Basin), which were very instrumental in helping Linda make history.
I recorded this coverage of hurricane Linda back in 1997, because it became the most intense Eastern Pacific Tropical cyclone in recorded history with a barometric pressure of 900 mb, along with 185 mph maximum sustained winds.
In regards to Hurricane Michelle here, it is a truly historic storm in its own right, and rightfully had its own name retired in the Atlantic Basin.

It cut to Hurricane Linda coverage from 1997 at the end. That I'd like to see.
