Who from the 60s doesn't relish the memories of the great Scottish troubadour who soothed and thrilled an entire generation with eleven #1 hits, including Sunshine Superman, Wear Your Hair Like Heaven, Season of the Witch, Atlantis, and Hurdy Gurdy Man? (And who among the young has not heard his music covered by Sarah McLachlan, Jim James, Jewel, and Hole to name a few?)
Donovan also helped reshape music and culture when he traveled to India with the Beatles to study meditation with Maharishi, and bring it back to millions of young people. Now, 40 years later, Donovan is back on stage with his message of meditation and peace for a new generation. He will be headlining a benefit concert at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m., alongside his daughter, Astrella Celeste, and musicians from Herman's Hermit, Sublime, Sheryl Crow, Guns N Roses and more. Mathew St. Patrick, from the Golden Globe winning TV show Six Feet Under, and Adam Gayor from Matchbox 20 will host the evening.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the David Lynch Foundation, which provides funds to teach at-risk youth to meditate.
