There are quite a number of questions here for discussion:

Language-how far is too far? Is one to assume they can communicate everything? Are we underdeveloped or nurtured towards verbal assimilation of intuitive experiences? Do we set the parameters of language or has language confined us? Why am I more at peace naming something than having a strong emotional impression of it in my head? Why do feelings of isolation commonly result? Can we communicate the "spirit" of our ideas? Where does communication from one human to another begin and end? Can a message from nature be translated into other contexts? If so, how?

  • Got your PM. Your thoughts in this vlog are very interesting. I know it must seem as if a lot of atheists are addicted to description. By coincidence I'm in the process of taking another fast look at the influence that William James on Wittgenstein. The overlap of their influences address a few of the inherent problems we human beings have with this...

I agree that intellectual smugness can be a really BIG problem..The word limit -DRAT! Might try a vid response next week. Swamped now. Good vid

  • @2bsirius Thank you for admitting that. Yes, the smugness can be so discouraging. I knew that you would understand the paradigm and would be able to take it on with tact and meditated thought. So glad to have you on board. :)

  • you just did a stellar job conveying what you were intuiting about the limits of language.

  • @0ThouArtThat0 Thanks that means a lot to me.

  • this was very clear. you need to put out more vids like this.

  • i can't help but believe that i am never really communicating my feelings to the best of my ability. i absolutely can't stand when i'm unable to express what i am feeling entirely. this was especially hard for me in therapy. the therapist was always able to "imagine how terrible or wonderful 'that' might have been," but i doubt that she really understood. also, i tend to have a problem with dumbing down my feelings for others. to be honest, i didn't think anyone else felt this way.

  • I don't think language is liberating as a method of description or explanation. No, it liberates through it's poetic and creative capacity to transform our perception of reality, and therefore the way we live in the world. We cannot ever hope to describe the real using words, but then again, perhaps description has never been the purpose of speaking. Maybe language is the space in which the world is communicated into being. Words make, they don't mirror.

  • @hartpoet I struggle with language, too. Writing is difficult for me, even though I love it and hope to eventually make a living doing it. Speech is an even bigger challenge, because it feels so much closer to my core, so much more an element of my living, breathing personality. Whether writing or speaking, words can be a source of restriction and limitation, even anxiety. But I also know they have the potential to be equally liberating.

  • @hartpoet oops...language d'oh! No that is more human error and lack of attention than language I meant to say, "That is so insightful of you..." :) Now who has too many little message. I think we're even. ;)

  • @rosesofsunshine3 This is so insight of you Rosie and I agree. But now my new questions become is language an artificial tool? What is a more natural less "painful" and "enduring" tool? Art is often used as a viable form of communication, that seems far too basic though. (Unfortunately, the complicated answer for me usually seems to be the more reasonable one.) You've definately got my wheels turning. I'll keep ticking away at it. Thanks for your responses, they mean a lot to me. :)

  • @xypowerpop Isn't that funny? Haha No, I'm glad you mentioned it. There is always room for laughter here.

  • @rut8norm Thanks Dominic it seems you and Rosie have come to accept this and I am just beginning to understand the concept. The concept is a little cold for me right now hopefully with more development I shall warm up.
