Tribute to Tomo ... an amazing Akita

We purchased this wonderful Akita pup - whom we called Tomo - 8 years ago this fall. He was an extraordinarily wonderful Akita. Sadly my beloved Tomo died Friday afternoon, July 24, 2009 in emergency surgery. He had been quite sick for several days, and the vet operated in a futile attempt to save his life. He had a large mass on his spleen which the vet believes was malignant. I was able to spend half an hour with him before the surgery, petting him and reliving all the wonderful times we had together. He had a CD Obedience title and we tried showing him in conformation .... but he was bored in the ring and loved instead to hang out with me in the woods on the mountain where we live. I buried him beside Tenshi (our first Akita) on the mountain in the yard and woods he loved so much - in a Japanese garden that now hold the graves of our first three Akitas. God graciously granted me the incredible privilege of sharing life with this dog.

Tomo gave me almost 8 years of joy ..... I shall miss my buddy terribly.

I know how you feel as well, I had an Akita for 6 years, His name was Akai. My moms boyfriend at the time let him outside to go to the bathroom, and didnt hook him up properly, because he was on sleeping pills and booze and he ran away, I spent the entire night looking for him, only to have him continue running around the town. I went home in hopes that he would make it back home. The next morning I woke up only to find him laying dead on the highway, It hurts so much..

I got an Akita crossed with a Husky and he ain't my dog, he's my friend, one big problem, he doesn't intend to do what I say, but oh well, he's good with other dogs and he's good with other people, he's 9 months old now, I got a video of him on here, I'm looking for some pet groups where they can help me with him, I hope they can otherwise I'll be forced to sell him or give him away, is there any tips you can give me? Your dogs cute, sorry for your lose, R.I.P Tomo! If you want an Akita got one!

Two things are needed: (1) socialization and (2) obedience training. Both are very important and must be immediately started.

Lost my Akita at 14 years 6 months. Nothing felt safer than knowing she was at the foot of the bed when I was sleeping! I miss her so much!

It almost makes me not want to get an akita because i know how much i'll cry when he goes:') But Akita's will always be the worlds BEST dog!!!
