One of several motors I received my from my Uncle Clarence in Northern Maine, this first video is a "see if it will run video"...and it did?...watch and find out.

and about 50 pulls was right.

Also quickly seen are the 1927 maytag engine, 1952 David Bradley Chain saw, 1970's Craftsman Chain saw, and a 10HP Tecumseh vertical shaft motor for my old beatup Murry garbage pick tractor.

  • I have an MTD snowblower with a 10 hp Tecumseh motor and last season when I was using it, it started to loose power as I went into the snow with it. It would loose power as I put a load on it and as soon as I pulled away from the snow it would rev back up. Any ideas as to what would cause this.

  • @upmaine It's always good to start with cleaning/rebuilding the carburetor. I should have a few videos dealing with the subject and it's cheap to do, free even if you don't purchase a little part kit.

  • hey cool vid. I have a few questions to ask you. I have an old mastercraft snow blower

7-21 I believe its an early 80's. its got a tecumseh engine which looks very similar to yours execpt that the exhaust is a little different. The engine fires up right away but does smoke alot with the choke on, and if i prime it a few too many times i notice fuel dripping out of the carb. I also have a slight idle issues it doesnt seem to idle very smooth but under load its good.

  • Yeah, I have heard using the primer too much will cause gas to leak. Haven't had the problem myself. Smoking with the choke on, especially when it's not needed, it also typical as its running to rich. As for the idle issue under no load, she's a bit out of adjustment. Find a service manual online for that motor, it will tell you what to do.

  • Losing fuel on no choke, had this same issue with an 8hp a week ago, valves are dirty- removed head, cleaned valves, new head gasket- issue gone

  • I did some tweaking to the needle valve with good results, but yeah, a minor overhaul would probably make it run like a kitten.

  • usually when the engine hunts like that, it takes just a 1/4 turn open of the main screw on bottom of carb to fix.

  • I've had Tech engines on every one of my power products. I ASK FOR THEM. I've never, never, had a bad one and I've been running a Sears lawn mower for 38 years; a John Deere 8 horse for 37 years [is that longevity or what] and several younger ones. I wouldn't have anything else but a Tecumseh. Also bought a Honda lawnmower. Now THAT was a piece of crap. Hard starting SOB. It's gone.

  • i dont see a motor

  • i like Tecumseh engines, they are very good engines but their carbs SUCK big time. i own 4 Tecumseh engines and all the carbs have had issues with. my briggs engines never had any carb issues yet.

  • it's not a race.

  • Same problem here Tim, Mine seems to be leaking from a pin hole up near the top. Not sure if its some sort of a vent????

  • I bought a new float for it because the old one had fluid in it. The new one was immersed in gas for a night and was fine the next day. so im stillscrating me head. Im looking to find a carb off of an 8hp or 10hp

  • Float done its absorbing gas into itself ,replace float and see .
