Amazing how far we've come............ Mankind has battled Mother Nature for numerous ocassions in these last decades and Don Quijote MIssion is not an exception. Only problem is Mother Nature does not like to get dealt with and maybe this time she would give u a taste of our own medicine

sound is the motion of atoms bouncing in a wave.
There are very few atoms in the vacuum of space.
But as the atoms from the explosion filled up the empty space around you then yes you would hear it but not till then.
-
Last time I checked there is no propagation of sound in the vacuum of space.

Yes

So would a chemical or nuclear explosion on an asteroid be silent?

no sound. they want to deflect an asteroid and they can't get sound on a video?
There's no sound in space.

who cares if you can hear it or not !! I think you probably wouldnt, but the real point to ask yourselves seems to be..'What is the name of the asteroid chosen? and when they make an explosion on it do they actully know what will happen? they dont know if its solid or hollow, brittle or soft like ice..what if it shatters? where is all the info on it? surely we the inhabitants of earth have a right to know everything about this mission and the potential dangers etc..
