ERRINGTON - Some parts of Vancouver Island received rain today. It's the first significant precipitation in many weeks.

The rain dampened our forests -- and lowered the wildfire risk slightly.

But it was not enough to lift the campfire ban.

And hot dry weather is returning -- and with it -- the fire risk goes up again.

The rain that fell has moved the fire risk status to moderate, but not for long.

And that's anticipated as early as Wednesday. And because of that, the campfire ban remains.

There's moisture on the top few centimetres of ground cover, but that will dry up quickly with the return of hot weather. Much of the forest remains tinder dry.

Vancouver island's only active fire is on Mount Tzouhalem in the Cowichan Valley. The steep terrain too difficult for fire crews to get at.

And get ready for more haze. The weather conditions that blew smoke from interior fires to Vancouver Island are expected to move in again.

If you see a wildfire - call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on your mobile phone.
