  • I was thinking of getting a pet parrot, but I don't know what kind to get! I really love the african greys, but being that I go to school full time and am gone for a good chunk of the day, I'm really uncertain. I love animals and would never ever hurt, mistreat, or neglect one! Any ideas

  • @littlemissxxx3 Thanks for the comment, i can only mirror really what watercatfish said they are not really the type of bird you can leave for hours on end, they need interaction daily, time out of the cage ... think of a 2 year old toddler how much attention they need and how big their needs are and you have a African grey parrot! They will and do pluck their feathers out we rescue loads that are more of less bored to death from being left and get in a state!

  • the thing is i have a male african grey handreaded from egg his all most 2 and a female witch i brought at 7 to 8 weeks shes 1 n a half she sleeps like a pegion but can she lay any eggs now n wht age did ur pair lay n r they hand readeds?

  • They dont tend to lay eggs untill 5+ years some not till they are about 12 - 14 yrs it all depends on the bird, hand reared greys dont make the best parents, no the parents of these chicks are not hand reared.

  • can handreader african greys be goog breeding birds but sill tamed and wht age do the makes and female mature at?

  • No they wont make great breeding birds at all as they were hand reared, they are hand reared for that reason to be good family pets. It's not until they are around 5yrs+.

  • @watercatfish (2-3 every day) sorry for 2 comments...

  • @littlemissxxx3 Not to be a downer or anything but if you are gone most of the day than dont get a bird. Do it for the parrots sake! And if you must, a cockateil would be best because they normally dont need as much attention as the larger parrots. But do not get a parrot, because they are Just like children, I need to spend at least 2-3 houers one on one time with my african grey or she will stat pulcking out her feathers and when i am not home i need to get my sister to spend time with her.

  • awww so cute! i can see that they dont have all of their feathers yet... is it because they're young or do they pluck?

  • I soooo want one

  • cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute <3

  • These birds are beautifull, and I congratulate to you.

I just got one at 4 weeks and just met it today, it was so small, but really cute.

I think these birds never should have problems in their life, like abuse, and etc.

Again i congratulate you with these lovely birds. :D
