The evening's chamber music half hour will feature Arnold Schonberg's Serenade, written in 1923 and one of Schoenberg's most exuberant and humorous works. Glenn Gould called this Serenade "one of my all-time favorites," filled with "a rare joie de vivre, a blessed enthusiasm for the making of music." It follows the traditional Austrian serenade form (as used by Mozart and others) of a multi-movement work, introduced with a march, and dedicated to a beloved person or a person of rank. The inclusion of both the mandolin and the guitar into the string and wind ensemble creates vivid sound combinations. The jaunty march movement introduces the high-spirited group of serenaders. The lively Viennese "Dance Scene" is interrupted by a beautiful landler-like Trio. The "Song without Words" movement is an intimate love song played by the violin over the most delicate strumming of the guitar. The Serenade ends with an exit march, but not before a longing glance back at the delights of the previous two movements.

  • You're singing was fabulous. There is a disgruntled person who posted a stream of negative comments on many of the Opera Night youtube sites. So angry that she hasn't been invited to sing at Opera Night, she decided to criticize singers with a vengeance! Needless to say---she's been blocked!

  • perhaps....but the audience LOVED her!!!!

  • what a beautiful performance!

  • it`s decent voice, good trills.. but it`s a little under-pitch:P

  • YES, THIS SORRY ELDERLY WOMAN MUST BE PITIED.. WE THINK SHE IS NOT WELL.

  • @operanight I just find it kind of sad that someone is obviously so disgruntled they feel the need to put down everyone else...also whoever it is created a new handle, lol...too much time on their hands for negativity!

  • peel me a sour grape

  • check your hearing aid

  • ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL !!!! YOU ARE A TRUE PRO WITH A BEAUTIFUL VOICE ! I AM ALWAYS IN AWE WHEN I HEAR YOU, AND WHEN YOU DO THE "TOUR DE FORCE GRANDIOSE PIECES, YOU BRING THE HOUSE DOWN. THANKYOU FOR ELEVATING THE MUSIC WORLD.

  • @beautywithin84 ...but based on your comments, it doesn't seem like you have anything useful to say. as a good musician, I already knew there were pitch issues in this performance, and we all have bad performances, so I am okay with this. the Italian is hard to hear due to the recording quality and the echo quality of the church. but like I said, I know that, because I am always striving to be better and understand better what I am doing so that I can bring art and passion to people's lives.

  • @beautywithin84 Perhaps if you'd like to offer criticism, you could offer constructive ways to fix things instead of posting what you didn't like. your comments make you seem like a bitter person whose joys come from pointing out the downfalls of others. the singers affiliated with Opera Night and the people who attend all love opera, love the art, and appreciate what we are trying to do. also as singers, we are open to constructive criticism...
