Happisburgh Lighthouse in Norfolk. Happisburgh (pronunced Haisboro) is slowly becoming victim to the dea. The lighthouse has about 50-60 years left. However the houses you see in the video have far less time. The road and line of houses in front of the lighthouse went 10 years ago. Erosion round here has been ongoing for centuries. The Low Lighthouse was demolished in 1883 just before it went over the cliff.

Happisburgh Lighthouse has a webcam http://www.bbc.co.uk/norfolk/content/webcams/webcam_happisburgh_lighthouse_we... and the lighthouse is open to the public during the Summer. http://www.happisburgh.org/lighthouse

  • you're lighthouse vids are brilliant! Welldone Quite a few lighthouses you've visited too!

  • @LovableLaura22 Thanks. There are some great locations along the UK coastline, many are where the lighthouses are. There are many stories to go with them too.

  • The beach has build up a lot of sand recently, making it well worth a Summer visit. Some more of the homes on Beach Road now have been earmarked for demolition.

  • A foghorn? Under the weather vane? Haha, you've gotta be nuts!

  • @92dilly Thanks for the reply. You are actually not the first person to mention about a fog horn at Happisburgh. I shall make further enquiries as I have never seen anything official.

  • @hellooldchap definitely not, I can remember two black horns set up under the weather vane on top of the roof, the lightship one sounded much further away.

  • @92dilly Fog horn? I'm not aware it had one, or are you referring to the light ship offshore?

  • @hellooldchap II remember the fog horn from Happisburgh light very well. It used to make the windows of our bungalow in Beach Road shake. We were right in front of the light and the bungalow was called Shannon,it was owned by the Wrightson's and is long gone, but I remember the horn being really frighting, my Dad said it was loud enough to get Whimpwell village back from the sea, which frightened me even more!

  • Predicting coastal process will always have a degree of uncertainty, but projections being used to inform the latest Shoreline Management Plans give the lighthouse at least 100 years before the cliff gets too close. By that time, the Norfolk coastline will be significantly different.

  • Newarp is now a buoy rather than a lightship.
