@SergeantBalthazar The word Hell translates in the film the greek word Hades/Underworld. Hades maybe wouldn't be understandable by the audience and the word underworld was too long I think.
The quote was said by Leonidas as it's portrayed in the film. See: Plutarch, Apophthegmata Laconica, 225d.
The christians also used the word Hades to refer either to death poetically.
