With great sadness I would like to tell the fans of Wardi everywhere that he passed away yesterday Saturday 18 Feb 2012 in Khartoum, Sudan. He was suffering with kidney failure for many years. At 80 he closed his eyes for the last time leaving millions of fans mourn his demise in Sudan and beyond. His songs brought joy and love to the hearts of women and men, and immortalised his beloved homeland in both Nubian and Arabic languages. His legacy will live forever.

Every time I hear Sudan’s music I enjoy it as my own Ethiopian music actually some of Sudan’s music. I grow up enjoying Sudan’s music and as young kid I left Ethiopia and lived in Sudan for a few years. What a beautiful people, music
