Naturalist and broadcaster Nick Baker goes panning for (wildlife) gold in the mudflats of the Severn Estuary.

Join Nick as he uncovers the ingredient that makes the estuary so important for wildlife - mud glorious mud! We get a close up view of some ragworms and find out about some of the estuary's other mud-dwelling inhabitants including the Laver Spire Shell and the Corophian Shrimp!

Plus, we get a lesson in scale as Nick shows us just how much precious wildife habitat could be under threat from proposals to build a barrage across the estuary.

Read The Wildlife Trusts' report 'Energy At Any Price?' looking at the different options for harnessing tidal power in the estuary www.wildlifetrusts.org/severnestuary

  • Nice and useful! Thanks for this video.

  • Mhm, there are lots of things that we don't notice. That's why it's strange for most people that there's so much life in the mud.
