Subtitle: Why typical Mighty Glaciers suck
Subtitle: The Legend of the 7 Stars

Well, I'm back to LPing Super Mario RPG Revolution, rather than having to deal with the Hyphy Movement, the San Francisco Bay Area residents who prove that it doesn't deserve to be called the "Yay Area", the shallow girls who would say "wanna suck my pee" just to mock me, and the Oakland rioters. Now I'm using 5.0, rather than 4.0 which has broken HP Rain, although I'm planning to stop using Mallow after a certain point anyway. Again, I'm planning to do a run where I raise HP, as well as have my final team be the defense team. The former was broken in the original game because it was generally easy to have sufficient Attack to brute force your way through it, but here, exploiting enemy weaknesses is bound to be critical, moreso if I boost only HP. The latter means I'm using defensive characters in a ROM hack where defensive behavior is intended to be punished to suitable degrees. Also, this LP will try to double as a bestiary. Be sure to stay on the lookout, but if you want to play the ROM hack blind, only view the videos after getting past the necessary point. (And before you comment, please don't bother to ask me for the recommended level for any boss. I'll probably keep my EXP value low to begin with, so I might actually be underleveled for some bosses. :P )

In a strange dream, a star comes from out of the sky and then acts as if it's trying to choose between Gaz's 4 dolls, eventually opting to choose the custom doll Geno. When it does, it creates a pillar of light and suddenly, the Geno doll becomes man-sized, and at first shows signs of not having its bearings straight but then manages fine and leaves....

We wake up, after being KOed by Gaz's Geno doll, and then when we go downstairs, Gaz calls to his mom, talking about how Geno left and went for the forest.

The strange dream may have been real after all.

With information old and new alike gathered, our next destination is clear: the Forest Maze. Mario and Mallow prepare for their trip, then fight their way through it, gathering its secrets but leaving a few alone figuring that they may come in handy later. Along the way, they encounter enemies that don't prove entirely easy, and one type of them is even a Squishy Wizard. Another type, Guerilla, is noteworthy--not because he's a Demonic Spider, mind you, but because despite a welcome counter to specials, he suffers the same problem as typical Mighty Glaciers: fast dropping HP.

I'm not asking for Stone Walls, but CAN'T MIGHTY GLACIERS FREAKING HAVE PASSABLE DEFENSE SO THAT THEY DON'T GET KILLED IN LIKE TWO SECONDS?!?!?!?

Anyway, after following Geno through a maze, our heroes see the culprit of the attacks on Rose Town: a bow-shaped being that uses Yoda speak, by the name of Bowyer, along with flunkies who happens to be arrows called Aeros. Bowyer, wanting to have fun, keeps shooting at the Rose Town residents, not even caring about an Aero delivering a green star--one just like the star found at Toad Town during Mack's attack! Suddenly, the Geno doll pops in and demands Bowyer to surrender the star, proving in his motives that whatever is in control is a good guy. Although Geno ends up outmatched, Mario and Mallow come to his aid to reinforce him. Now it's time to fight....

*Armed Boss: Bowyer
As Bowyer says, for each time you attack him, on his turn, he will attack back. In the OG, his gimmick was instead locking a particular button out of A, X, or Y for 2 turns so that you couldn't use any commands relating to that button. But anyway, you don't want to get too gung-ho on smashing him with a numbers edge. Of course, HP Rain doesn't count, so you can just have Mario or Geno attack, and Mallow keep the team's health up. Script shortcomings also have him not use his gimmick when he's in process of using Arrow Rain unconditionally within a few turns, although they may be intentional but I can't tell you. Speaking of, Arrow Rain deals a definite bit of damage to everybody, but is mercifully telegraphed by Bowyer rolling his eyes, giving you a cue to have everybody block. (Early tip: later bosses may have deadly powerful moves too.) When Bowyer loses 2/3 of his health, he will start using Arrow Rain every few turns without question, but a few Jumps should put an end to his Yoda speaking ways. (By the way, Geno has problems surviving in the OG. Not so much here.)

With Bowyer felled, Geno reveals that the stars are pieces of the Star Road--7 in total to be exact. It is because of the Star Road that wishes can be granted--hence the Legend of the 7 Stars. So now, we have 2 of them, a new ally in Geno, who is a hybrid of a Glass Cannon and Squishy Wizard, and a more clear objective in mind. Although we do have to worry about a surviving Aero escaping to alert Smithy of what he just overheard.

  • @CalMc1234 Incednetly, I primarily used Geno (Beam) and according to the Single Character Challenge FAQ, you CAN beat Bowyer with Geno alone. I'm sure he could've dodged the arrow and used Geno beam to obliterate him (it was the strongest move I had at the time, since Shocker was changed back to Thunderbolt...sad face). Maybe not in THIS version of the game, but definetly in the original.

  • Hm, got to love Geno, he's a wizard who uses guns. Talk about being before its time, huh. But I wonder, though it's implied he would have been beaten by Bowyer had Mario and Mallow not stepped in, I wonder if Geno could have taken him alone.
