This brings back memories. I worked at SGI in 1996 and 1997, and I used an R4400 Indy running IRIX 5.3 as my workstation. Those were the days!

The N64 was based on the Indy's custom graphics hardware.

@KaxiLaxi o yeah, real fckin' UNIX, furthermore one of the most powerful ever made. This is Silicon Graphics IRIX dude, an dream os and an dream machine ...
-
so this one is UNIX too?

Hey, were these used to do "pre-rendered" video for video games consoles and such in the 90's (and probably movies too) or were those even more powerful? did the machine originally have 256MB of ram in 1993/94? if so, that's insane!
-
@Ricouzuki somewhat. The N64 graphics engine is more powerful.
-
@douro20 can we get n64 like graphics performance out of the indy then?

It would be fun to buy an old exotic high end workst that would have cost a kablillion dollars back when it was new. But then i'd have to find something to do with it or i'd just be bothered. Some kind of max headroom Kraftwerkesque talking vector face that predicts your mood based on aggregated news and provides morning toast and light conversation?. Unfortunately i am dumb and unequal to such a project or such a computer.
