This is a PNP transistor oscillator circuit that I show driving a pulse motor. A capacitor at the base of the transistor is a new way (for me) to trigger the circuit.

  • thats great with the capacitor, ive never got the right size resistors, but i have heaps of caps.

do you suppose the cap and diode setup might work with a npn?

  • @harpbloke ------This was a funny circuit to build. I started out by replicating another circuit and then just started taking parts out. I got down to just a few parts and then just started applying what I have learned and presto----out came this.

  • the main circuit look somewhat like a joule thief ... a very usefull circuit indeed ... maggie blinks when the red led illuminates ... red has the lowest forward bias voltage generally ... it must steal all of poor maggies energy ... it wont trigger without the LED on the base... the led must provide the voltage accross the pn junction and I agree every circuit I build I learn something .. happy holidays

  • @helpmonkey -----Happy Holidays to you also. Thanks explaining why the LED is needed in the circuit.

  • @Lidmotor ooh ic... sweetness thankx :)

  • @coilsinamotor ------The snowman? Big Lots. The circuit? I made up as I went along. Maggie? I made her from odds and ends.

  • @Lidmotor where did u get it :)

  • @egn83b ----It would be interesting to see the exact circuit that is inside that IC chip. Amazing that all that stuff goes on in such a small package.

  • @Rawbush -------Yes. I already knew that from the led spec sheets that I have looked at but this was the first time that I really saw the effect in action. It was interesting to see

  • @craig265 ----Merry Christmas.
