Directed by Alexander MacKendrick
Starring Basil Radford, Joan Greenwood, Gordon Jackson, & James Robertson-Justice.
During World War II, the small Scottish island of Todday is suffering from the most terrible thing they believe could've happened; a wartime shortage of whisky! Fortunately for the islanders, a ship carrying the precious liquid is wrecked on a reef, and it's up to some enterprising locals to rescue the shipment before British revenue officials confiscate the cargo! Inspired by the S.S. Politician, which sank outside Scotland in 1941, carrying 250,000 bottles of whisky.
Running Time: 83 minutes

@kirriereoch - You bring back a few old memories of when my new hubby, a redhaired Scotsman, persuaded me to take some whisky with warm water and honey added when I came down with a cold. It worked of course, hehe.

@kirriereoch I think this is true of all superb films - they seem to reveal more of themselves with each successive viewing

I think this might have been part of the inspiration behind "Dad's Army"

Brilliant. I´ve seen it a few times and each time little subtle details come to the fore. The fact it´s set on the Isle of Todday is a great subtle pun. A wee hot toddy (a whisky with a little hot water and honey added) is always recommended if you´ve got a cold.

My god. The beginning of this is exactly like the beginning of the Lord of the Rings where they show off the Shire. *mind blown*
