Essential Question: What is the importance of recess, and how important is it for students to be outside throughout the school day?
Project Overview: There are many emotional, physical, cognitive, and social benefits to recess and to allowing our students a change to play outside.
Challenge: Many schools are taking away recess as a means to increase classroom time, raise test scores, and react to budget cuts. Our challenge is for teachers to find alternate means of punishment for students besides taking away recess and for schools to realize the benefits and necessity of recess for elementary students.
