So this is a common problem for this car...
To fix it, all i really did was brake the pins out (not needed)
And then shave off the metel clip that prevents it from turning unless depressed.
Since its shaved its always depressed so the key can ALWAYS turn.
Still the pill and ECU keep the car from being stolen :)

  • lol i think this is just a perk of a ford focus I have had this fixed 3 times. no luck. I find that if you pull the key back three times it fixes the jam lol. i have had them shave my key everything... sucks.

  • @poohbealov Don't shave the "teeth" of the key, shave the part that the gets pushed in when the key is in place, that way it is always "in" and is free to turn.

Don't worry so much about someone jacking your car cause they still need the PILL from the key inside of that plastic 0 shape that reads the PILL code.

Now if the person has the OB2 tool (or whatever it is called) to program a new code, then they could easily swipe your car, but who wants a 2000 focus? :D

  • This is a common on the Ford Focus. Especially 2000-2004 model years. The ignition key will be difficult to insert and remove, or the lock won't turn. A temporary solution if you get stranded is to insert the key and lightly tap on the handle of the key 10-15 times to vibrate the sticking parts into place. The problem will only get worse and the only permanent fix is to replace it with strattec part # 707592. You can buy a new lock for $45. and easily replace it yourself.

  • @cityautolocksmith Yeah that is what I was doing for a while. And then at one time i paid a locksmith cause I HAD to work that day (delivery driver)

So finally did this, was cheaper than 45$.

And my car is not more likely to get stolen, you still need the key in the 0 pill reader :)

  • because the key no good

  • @thewarzoneking The key is fine, it opens the back door, the front driver and passenger door.

The problem is where the key goes.

Filing the blocker fixed it.... no problems since, just have to be sure to push the key in ALL the way or it will fall out if doing high speed turning :D

  • One question. I want to do the same thing to my ignition cylinder but i am unsure where to drill and what tool to use. Could you please describe the steps for the drilling. thx :)

  • @viper19861986 yahh that's just what they did i don't even care anymore im so done with this car! i don't think ill ever buy a ford again. i haven't even hit 90.000 miles and i have had to do 1,000 dollar repairs and now i need new tires lol. im gonna go with a Toyota this time. but it was a good first car. lasted a whole 10,000 miles after i bought it lol

  • I'm a locksmith in Minneapolis. This is a very cheap fix, however. This would only work on an ignition for the 2000-2003 models and even then it won't work all the time. There are no pins in the Focus ignition, there are wafers. The wafers allow a sidebar to lower, which allows the ignition to turn. Typically when you break wafers, they jam under the sidebar and the ignition won't turn ever again.
