Just a short video on my communications I have in place in the event of an emergency. I have a CB Base Station at my house, Its a Realistic Navajo TRC-458 thats been peaked and tuned. I have communicated up to 20 miles on this unit. My vehicle has a Cobra 25 LTD which allows me to communicate up to ten miles away with my base station. Not a bad setup if you ask me.

Nice 458 BTW, a very worthy rig and one that is in very high demand by serious CB ops. Just look at what they are going for on Ebay and you will see that they have a huge following. Once opened up, these radios are know to have some tremendous transmit audio out on both Am and SSB.

I just hauled mine out of the closet and hooked it back up after 10 years. What a great radio. It talks LOUD also. Great SSB rig. Mine had all the mods done years ago. I forgot what fun it is to be on the radio.

LOL, I got sucked in to going to one of those ARES meetings and it was a Whackfest. It seemed your rank was based on how much access you had to the local police station/fire department. The guys with the "Emergency Communications" jackets and yellow light bars on their vehicles cracked me up. That was the last meeting I went to. I have a tech license but don't even talk on the radio. I used to do SKYWARN but the whackers ruined it.

The 458 is a great radio with the potential of several times the 4 watt legal limit and with the D858 chip you can add up to approx. 400 channels. If you lose transmit all of a sudden where your putting out nothing or next to nothing look on the pc board inside and search for the 1 small blue capacitor, then clip it out so it's not in the circuit any longer and chances are you'll be back up and running in 10-minutes.

I like to see someone who is thinking inside the box. ( you know, the box..... a CB radio) Anyway, I think a CB will be the communication norm after the shtf so get ready NOW. We patriots must be able to communicate because you can bet the government will be able to as well as UN troops and who knows who else. CBs can often be found at garage sales for 5 or 10 dollars because people think they are pretty much worthless. Talk to your "BUDDIES" and everybody get a CB.
