I have to keep reminding myself that the Olympics is not all about medals. These athletes are the best in the world, and what separates the winner from the rest of the field is often a few tenths of a second, especially in the pool. Before I left for Beijing, I clocked myself in the pool swimming the 50m free, yup about double the world record of 21.28, while Jernej Godec was only 1 second off the mark earning him a 18th place finish.
Outside the athletes' village, I met up with Jernej Godec, Damir
Dugonjic, and Hannah Wilson to talk about their experiences in Beijing before they headed back to Berkeley for the fall semester.
