Haleigh's relative re-arrested

The Department of Children and Families became aware of the allegations of drug use by Crystal. DCF requested a random toxicology test of Crystal Sheffield, during the course of their investigation, as they found it relevant to investigate Crystals fitness as a parent. At that time, in June 2009, I learned from DCF that Crystals infant daughter, Chloe, not even one (1) year of age, had been born with illegal narcotics in her system due to Crystals drug use during her pregnancy. The DCF caseworker had not informed me of this DCF case against my client, and I had no prior knowledge of the case until that time. DCF dismissed the investigation against Ronald Cummings, without explanation.

I felt as if I was only being told relevant information by the family, after a fiasco had occurred. I could not represent a client who was not being honest with me, and was taking illegal drugs. To make matters worse, In April 2009, Crystal admitted to me that she had taken unprescribed pain medication. Further, her mother, Marie Griffis, reported to me that Crystal had stolen her step-fathers pain medication after he had surgery in April 2009. I was extremely concerned over my clients drug use. Crystal assured me that it was not an addiction, and that it had only taken a few pills due to back pain from an old car accident. In April, 2009, Crystal suffered another seizure, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. All of these incidents played out loudly in the media. Despite my requests to family and friends to withhold all comments to the media about Crystals seizures, they defied my recommendations. As such, I then was forced to issue numerous press statements regarding Crystals status.

A vindication? I do not think so. A most telling statement comes from William Cobra Staubs:

Kim Picazio and I had conflicts during the case because she adamantly defended her client. During the course of the case, I personally witnessed Crystal Sheffield take illegal narcotics on several occasions. I attempted to tell Kim that her client was doing drugs. Kim Picazio did not want me releasing this information to the public. I confronted Crystals family about her drug use, and they believed she should be put in rehab. I was present at a meeting between Crystal Sheffield and her Father,


PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has re-arrested Hank Croslin Junior. Croslin is Haleigh Cumming's step-uncle.

Croslin was arrested Thursday morning.

Police say it has nothing to do with Haleigh's disappearance.

Croslin faces charges for possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy with the sheriff's office says he found Croslin passed out in the front seat of a van on Tyler Street. That deputy found pills in the van with him.

According to the report, Croslin said he didn't know the pills were in the van.

Croslin also told deputies he had dropped his son off at the school bus and hadn't been anywhere since.

The DCF is now investigating.

In September, Croslin was arrested for grand theft. While in jail, he was re-questioned about the disappearance of his step-niece, Haleigh Cummings. No additional charges were ever filed

I agree she should leave. She has said when she married him he had no drug problem. What better way to make him stop or at least find out he will not stop and move on. This is bad for her kids.

I do not think so. I think he is with her but I am not sure. Just that she felt she was being picked on and said that they would "being saying sorry to her one day". She says she does not know what happened to Haleigh and that the FLDE person told her that was what all this was about. So, she joined her brother and sister in law in another state. She also in the past has said that she does not want her kids to stay in Florida because she does not know what happened to Haleigh.

DCF has told the mother of the children they are not going away, they want answers about Haleigh. They next they will take her children if they do not get some answers. The mother has taken her children and moved to Mass.

Oh god what is this like the 5th time?! Honestly - how many times are they going to put him and jail and take him out? His poor kids - I hope DCF is involved in this.
