The Beijing Wu Shu team arrived for a tour in the late 1980's.
This was taped at a press conference held in NYC's Chinatown.

Helping out was Mark Salzman who had visited and studied Wu Shu in China but had not yet published his book "Iron & Silk".

Also on hand was Cindy Ming and Ken Goodman who had both studied Wu Shu in China. Ken went on to a career in Hong Kong films and Cindy became a host on the Martial Art World TV show.

A longer version of this story will be uploaded in the coming weeks.

  • The wushu changquan form looked like he either cut it short or made it for such a closed space... hrmmm.

I loved the chin na set! I've never seen chin na in a sparring set like that before haha!

  • That was a small space for Wu Shu even if the place wasn't packed with reporters.

  • I agree all the way.

I'm going to be competing in Berkeley's CMAT (Chinese Martial Arts Competition).

Will you be covering it at all?

  • Sorry, we are out of the martial art news business. Good luck with your competition.

  • @MartialArchiveTv truly a shame, someone should petition to bring your program back or one like it. *bows*

  • @Bastion83 A petition with a million dollars attached! Thanks for the thought.

  • mark was soooooo hot. omg......

  • Just so you understand how this press conference was set up. Mark Salzman and the Wu Shu coaches had prepared for the English speaking press. The coaches were uncomfortable since they didn't speak a single word of English and we had to share their limited time with a large number of local Chinese speaking press. There might have been just one other English language TV crew there.
