The extra-curricular activities involve first years with a Motor Sports Club and UCLan Racing in order to provide real racing experience. This involves preparing and racing single seater race cars, motorcycles, engines and pro-karts. UCLAN Racing is the name our first years have given to their race activities. Their successes include winning the King of Kents trophy at Brands Hatch and winning the Opal Telecom North West FF1600 Championship. Preparation for the racing starts early in the first year with a Motor Sports Club ~ requiring extra commitment to gain very valuable and essential experience. A number of first year students have also been involved with the preparation of a turbo-charged 600cc Honda motor cycle for racing in Macau. The extra-curricular race car preparation and racing activities continues into the second year through the close co-operation with Juno Racing Ltd who design and manufacture National Supersports cars. Third years are currently working on a new Formula Student car and on re-developing an existing car. We were best newcomers to Formula Student in 2003 and received high praise for the design of the 2004 car. Formula Student forms a major part of all courses in the final year.
On all the motor sports courses you are free to choose whether to take a year in industry as an industrial placement. This is taken by most students and is at the end of the second year. Throughout the second year there are formal weekly sessions to develop interviewing and job-seeking skills.
