We had a beautiful day in Louisiana, so my wife and I spent a few hours with our bikes on the Tammany Trace. We stopped for lunch on the Mandeville Lakefront. Fun day.
We were particulary impressed by the huge playground and park at the Trace headquarters, near the parish offices.
It got me to thinking about the Rails to Trails program in New Orleans. It was being discussed a year ago for the Lafitte Corridor. Then it kind of just went away.
Something like this could be great for Lakeview and Mid City. A good bike trail connecting City Park and the CBD would be a "freeway" for bike commuters. and breed new businesses along and near the route (cafes, bike rentals, etc.)
The proposed route passes just a few blocks from the new hospitals as well. Why can't our city leaders get behind something like this?
