At Thirstquencher Headquarters, it seems Colonel Capricola is not happy with Ed and Ben's blunder (possibly with the bell, or maybe setting the village on fire). However, Bubbles and Gingerelle are looking for Musashi. They wait while Topo is up to something...
Back at Grillin' Village, Musashi returns from the Frozen Palace only to find that something else is wrong with the village... but the Mayor is so depressed he wants Musashi to find out for himself. As he goes around town, the shopkeepers are all saying similar things: That Princess Fillet was in the village and seized all of their profits from the shops under the notion of "maintenance fees for the castle".
Informed, he quickly moves to the Castle to report to Ribson. Ribson was not aware Fillet was in the village as she had gone missing prior. While she must be found, the Gondola is now fixed, and Musashi decides to test it out.
The warrior steps off the speedy Gondola, disoriented. But notices a similar sight. Looks like Steamwood is having problems again. But Forres isn't in his house. Using the Pipe shortcut, he finds the man on the ground. Forres hands Musashi a Valve Handle and tells him what happened. Specifically that Fillet demanded to be brought to Steamwood and nearly knocked him out. She's now locked inside while the place could blow up.
Recalling the Manual, Musashi enters Steamwood to find the princess talking to herself in a strange voice. He then reveals via a tail pull that Topo was off posing as the princess. After a brief dialogue exchange between the two, Topo vanishes, leaving behind the town profits.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 5 is actually the shortest next to Chapter 1, so there is quite a bit more story invoked in it. Also, note hat I joined two segments together (right after I saved in the Inn).
I will be using D-Kick as much as possible because this is the only chance in the game you can use it outside of the Frozen Palace. It gives a small speed boost over regular running if you use it right. You might call this a speed running tactic, but I was trying really hard to get this chapter wrapped up before Day 19. Also, it gives Jambread or more liberal use.
To go ahead with the story, you need to talk to at least one shopkeeper and hear about the profits being taken.
Once Topo is exposed, we have to fix Steamwood again. And this time, some Valve Handles are missing. #1, #4, and #8 to be specific. The first is on the ground, so you'll need to pick that up before you move to the first valve. Having the L-Brace can give you a much easier time compared to before, as you'll see.
Also, this acts as another flag of sorts that prevents you from getting the Wind Scroll too early. If you try to go down the Water Reservoir's passage, you'll notice a pipe is there. Try to go there say... right after beating Kojiro, there will be a Steam Leak that blocks your path until Steamwood is fixed for a second time.
And so the princess that was rescued turned out to be fake. How about that? But I'm pretty sure players who were paying attention could already guess that.
If the town is under constant threat of destruction when Musashi is around, I wonder what it would be like if he wasn't there or hadn't been summoned?

@gmanlott They would definitely be screwed. Though most of the things that happen to the village are caused by The Thirsquencher Empire. The Vambees was Mannick's fault though.
