the "aeolian machine": a 20-string, homemade, robotic "harp"
spans 4 octaves of an aeolian/minor mode (some pitches excluded in lower registers). 2 bass strings, 18 guitar strings.
custom microcontroller utilizes pwm for up to 7 different motor speeds ranging from 60 to 576 rpm, controlled via max/msp.
custom machined and hand-wound guitar pickups.
in this demo, i am controlling the harp off-screen from the computer keyboard. several other control modes are possible (MIDI devices, sequences, etc.).
Designed and built January-May 2008 in fulfillment of requirements for B.A. Honors in Electronic Music & Multimedia at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA.
