I am putting layers of collage elements in the paintings, working with a very basic idea of what each narrative will be.

  • thanks! this was my mom lonnng before I knew her, so making these pieces is very revealing for me.....

  • What I try to do is burn in the layers from the top and the bottom; also, if I can work fast enough i make sure that the surface that i am laying the collage elements on is liquid so there is no air pocket underneath. I either lay the board on the heated palette while working, or liquify it quickly with the heat gun. This may keep the paper from lifting off the surface. Adding more medium is a good idea; I usually glob it on anyway. I would rather use lots and scrape off any excess later.

  • I agreed with what you said about too many negative associations with the word 'black',so i did some research:

"The word black comes from Old English blæc- "black, dark, ink", from Proto-Indo-European bhleg- "to burn, gleam, shine, flash". From distant Latin flagrare- "to blaze, glow, burn", and Ancient Greek phlegein "to burn, scorch". " So, how cool is that?!! to be black, is to gleam, to shine, to flash, to blaze, to glow and to 'burn or scorch', encaustic girlfriend! ww. victoria-wallace

  • I don't really respond alot on youtube but keep up the good work and keep sharing your spirte peace out!

  • The crossword thing is cool! I used a bingo sheet for one of my encaustics.

  • LOVE the idea of using a crossword puzzle in you work!

  • Cooooool. And your mom is so perty.

  • I admire your work, Gilda. I have collaged prints in my encaustic work, similar to you, and over time the paper lifts at the center, not around the edges. Do you think I should add more medium to the substrate when applying the print? Again Great Work!!!
