Big Country track which was based on the town of Corby, apologies to Steve Purcell and Peter Hill, the covers of their books I have used the photos from.I could not find any other references to the town.My first attempt at this so be gentle please,I understand that Corby may not be the nicest place in the UK but this may let people know why this is the case, listen to the lyrics, thanks.

  • @andrewjcraig Thatcher was a bitch..

  • i was born and bred in corby, those were hard times, yes it has its own accent called corbyite, its had reinvented itself and is now prospering, and has become the fastest growing town in the uk.....

  • Thanks Andrew, much appreciated.

  • Thanks man, appreciate you guys backing me up

  • It is indeed about Corby -- Stuart made that clear in an interview in Melody Maker. Lots of Scots folk went to work in Corby, told they had jobs for life, but Thatcher closed it down.

  • yes it is about how a load of scots guys decanted there and well lost there jobs..i think people in corby have a hybrid english/scottish accent thing going on weird..its a place which has totally reinvented itself though, ravenscraig the same i actually worked there just before british steel closed it.. the photographer is brian aris who confirmed the striking photo was at grangemouth gives me the chills xx

  • Hi there, thanks for clearing that up. Can you please ask (if possible) if the actual song refers to Corby? I appreciate that the Steeltown cover photos do not represent Corby.I would like to know the real story and If Tony Butler could confirm or otherwise. Cheers and all the best,

  • its actually grangemouth, near polmont woods, i confirmed this with tony butler oh and also the photographer... i live there hasn't changed much..unlike ravenscraig where i worked as well xx

  • Aah..!I thought it wasnt acceoting my comments so I had to post them about three times!Sometimes either youtube or my service provider seems really slow!Peace` ye`all!

  • thanks for that, I must have been reading the wrong article,it could have been someone speculating about the story behind the song rather than a factual account.I Feel a bit of a twat now thats for sure, never mind I will take that on the chin, cheers,
